Jake’s told me a few stories about his Dad, the one that stands out is when ya’ll were moving from 29 Palms with 2 white German Shepherds all crowded into a Volkswagen that had to be parked just so, on a hill in order to start! Sounds like a Marine thing to do! Many condolences to you all and from one Marine to another, Semper Fi!
In or around 1975, my dear Brother-in-Law, Norm was living near Cherry Creek, NY and I was living in Buffalo. On a return auto trip to Florida, with my family, my car broke down in Central Ohio. I called Norm, and he said “I’ll be right there”. Norm and my Sister Peggy drove from their home in their vehicle to where my car was stuck, in Ohio. Norm towed my car with his to his home (about 200 miles). He then helped me fix the car so I could drive the rest of my way home in Buffalo. He never would take any payment for his heroic effect. As He said: “That’s what family is for.”
May you Rest In Peace My Dear Bother. You will be sorely missed.
