In spite of his many accomplishments, he was possessed with a disarming sort of charm and was humbly unpretentious. This rapidly put others at ease. A compassionate individual, as well as an astute observer of human nature, he wouldn't hesitate to share an anecdote, or inquire as to how a person was faring, and had a genuine and abiding interest in others (and their families, etc.). He loved and was passionate about his life, work, wife and family.

I’m so very sorry to hear about the passing of Jim. He was an amazing man full of life and laughter. He will be missed by so many people and my heart is broken for your family. We will remember him fondly and all the great times we were able to share in the backyard beside the pool. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.

Jim was just the best - generous, kind, funny! Sandy, you and Jim were second parents to our son, Michael, who spent endless hours at your home, eating at your table, playing with Matt. You and Jim had so many wonderful years together but deserved so many more. Our deepest sympathies, Jim and Pat Holmes

I also grew up with Jimmy Dates on Colvin Blvd. He and my brother Larry were great pals as kids. He was always getting into something and loved to build things. He was always a laughing happy kid. Jimmy was the inspiration for building several of the neighborhood “forts” where all the kids hung out. As we all got older , it wasn’t long before he started his quest to win over the heart of one of my best friends ..Sandy. I think it was the motorcycle that finally did it! I also stood up in their dream June bicentennial wedding. Sandy even made her own bridal grown. I wore her veil in my own wedding. As they started their lives together , Jimmy built his own successful business ,they raised their family..and now grandchildren. His life has ended far too soon but he has left a legacy to be proud of. To my dear friend Sandy, you will always have him in your heart and soul and you will find strength in your beautiful family. Our deepest sympathies to you all.
Please follow through with your promise to reach out to me when we are home for the summer.
Love,
Nancy and Rick

I grew up with Jim on Colvin Blvd! I was in Sandy and Jim’s wedding. I had just heard a few days ago that he was facing the end of his life.I am happy that he did not linger and that he is at the end of his difficult journey. I pray that Sandy is surrounded by her family and friends and they reflect on a life well lived and loved..God Bless everyone and sincere sympathy from LInda and Greg

Within in moments of meeting Jim (30 years ago).
It was a friday late afternoon. .I had the wht oak plywood tied to the roof of my Aries K. I had one arm on this all the way from east rochester ..He met me at the door and for the next 30 minutes he keep thanking me for going above and beyond.. A Testimony to Jim's character that deed was never forgotten. Jim had a tremendous respect for the human condition .We became close bussiness associates... You could set your watch by Jim's word ..Our relationship blossomed into a lasting friendship built on that first meeting.I Will miss you my dear friend
